Featured Service - Books for Babies

The Wimmera Regional Library's Books for Babies Project was initiated to introduce babies and their families to the wide range of resources and activities their local libraries offer, and to promote the many benefits of reading to your baby from birth.

The aim of the Books for Babies project is to give to every newborn baby in the Library's region a library bag containing a range of items to promote the importance of reading to babies. The bags will contain a special board book, a booklet of nursery rhymes and verses, information about the Library and an enrolment form.

Books and Babies schemes have been running in several places around the world for approximately ten years. Follow-up studies to several of these schemes have clearly demonstrated that the benefits are measurable and profound. Indications are that children who are introduced to books as babies have a head start when they begin school.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The fourth annual Premier's Reading Challenge aims to promote a love of books and reading, and is aimed at students from Prep to Year 10. Check out the web site to get information about how to join the Challenge and find books lists. Books in the Library's collection from the Premier's Reading Challenge are marked with a gold spot, to help you find them on the shelves.
