Australasian Genealogical Computer Index: AGCI

Contains indexes to 3.9 million records drawn from the collections of 39 family history societies and institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand and is available to researchers in this "fully searchable" format. Nineteenth and twentieth century data drawn from cemetery records, shipping arrivals, newspaper entries, council rate books and war memorials are among the records included. Each entry shows name, date, type of event and the source from which it is drawn.

Australian Pastoral Directory 1923 - CD-ROM

Lists approximately 23,000 stockowners in all States of Australia. There is also a separate index for New South Wales by Station, a list of prominent stock agents in four states and various statistics and advertisements.

The listings for New South Wales and Queensland giving: name of Owner, Station, postal Address, number of stock and a separate indexes of station names. The listings for Victoria give name, address and number of sheep. The listings for the other states - South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory give name and address of the stockowners

Maps are included for New South Wales - show pastures protection districts, and for Victoria and Queensland show pastoral districts as used in the directory.

Australian State directories (Wises) c1904 - CD-ROM

Post office directories (the predecessors of today's telephone books and street directories) are a valuable source for family historians. Usually published on an annual basis, directories provide a snapshot of the suburb or locality in a particular year, allowing researchers to trace the development of the street and area where their forebears lived.

The Wise's Post Office Directories are divided into three main sections: Towns, Alphabetical and Trades and Professions. These three classifications enable the enquirer to see at a glance the Householders or Traders in any one Town; the Business and Address of any resident in the State; and the Firms engaged in any trade or profession.

Ballarat Cemeteries Index 1856-2004 - J. Blanchard - CD-ROM

An index of over 130,000 names from the Ballarat Old Cemetery, the Ballarat New Cemetery and the Crematorium. Ranging in years from 1856-2004, the CD is fully searchable by surname, or first name, and can be narrowed down to cemeteries as well. But note: the results page is limited to viewing 100 entries at a time.

Cemetery Transcriptions: Index to Monumental Inscriptions - G. Grinton - CD-ROM

Lists 172,324 entries from 258 cemeteries, primarily cemeteries from Victoria, but there are a few South Australian, New South Wales and Tasmanian. Details included where available: Number (on the database), Surname, Given Name/s, Age, Cemetery, Burial Date, Death Date, the availability of more details, a source reference. You can access information alphabetically by surname, cemetery and surname, cemetery and date, death/burial date.

Census of New South Wales 1828 - CD-ROM

Allows searches by a number of fields including Surname, Given name, Age, Status (convict/free/born in colony etc), Ship and Year of Arrival, Religion, Occupation, Abode. It is comprehensively cross referenced so that employers for example can be located. The informative introduction and reference notes that were in the printed volume are also included on the CD.

Cornish roots  - CD-ROM

Contains part of 1851 Census (about 77,000 names covering Registration Districts of Bodmin,St Columb, Liskeard, St Austell. Gazeteer of 15,000 placenames showing place on map and Ordnance Survey grid references. List of 258 parishes with date and place coverage of register/transcript availability with Parish map. Databases of place names, family names and famous people and the approx 33,000 people who left Cornwall for America. A range of general historical information.

Early Australian Electoral Rolls Vol. 1: N.S.W. 1903, Tasmania 1903, W. Australia 1901 - CD-ROM

The three states combined comprises of almost 900,000 names, and also included are maps showing the electoral districts of each state. Other states to be released in volume 2.

A compilation of the earliest complete surviving electoral rolls (covering New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania) that have been microfilmed, which contain the names of both men and women voters, and  so is of extreme importance to many.

Set out in a database format, it contains names, addresses and occupations that allows advanced searching on all fields. Search on name and find that missing ancestor who may have followed the 'goldrush', address to find out who were neighbours and who else lived in the same street, by given name and occupation if a female's married name is not known.

Hatches, matches, dispatches - CD-ROM

An index of over 31,000 names from baptism, marriage and burial records from the original church registers in Ballarat, Creswick and Bacchus Marsh. The areas covered are Ballarat, Creswick, Ararat, Maryborough, Daylesford and Bacchus Marsh. Addresses for the source of the original records are included in the help file. Researchers may request a copy of extract from the original record holder. The baptism and marriage records range from 1800s to 1930, and the burial cover the period from mid 1800s through to the 1990s.

Immigration to Victoria: 1852-1879 - CD-ROM

Index to inward passenger lists to Victoria for passengers coming from British and foreign ports excluding New Zealand. Coastal passengers are not included. The information includes the surname and given names of the passenger where recorded, the name of the ship, the month and year of arrival, and a reference.

Index to Convicts who arrived in New South Wales, 1788-1842 - CD-ROM

An index to convicts who arrived in NSW (and some in VDL) between 1788 and 1842 and to the ships that transported them. Gives convict's name or alias, arrival date, ship name, fiche no., page no., film no., shelf no. The 'ships index' gives the name of the ship, arrival date, fiche no., page no., film no., shelf number.

Inquest Index Victoria: 1840-1985 - CD-ROM

Index to nearly 240,000 inquests undertaken in Victoria from 1840 compiled by Marjory Knight. It contains different information over time. For the 1800s the cause of death and the region is included. The name of the deceased is always given if known. For some years the deceased's occupation is recorded.

Marine births, deaths & marriages, Victoria, 1853-1920 - CD-ROM

Contains records of births, deaths and marriages on board international and coastal ships bound for Victoria between 1853 and 1920. The index contains over 6200 entries. For the first time in Australia these birth, death and marriage records are accompanied by over 3380 digital images of the original Marine registers. Over 1350 ships can be searched using the ship's name. Some of the records have more than one image of previously unreleased information, such as an inventory of the deceased belongings or personal papers.. Once an entry is located the actual image of the event can be seen at the click of a button. The indexes vary according to the date and type of event concerned. Generally they include the surnames, given names, registration number, registration year and ship's name.

Marriage Index Victoria 1921 to 1942 - CD-ROM

Contains nearly 800,000 index entries representing over 300,000 marriages registered in Victoria from 1921 to 1942. The searchable fields include the family and given names of both parties to the marriage, the event year and the registration number. Also contains records between 1921 and 1938 held in the Marriage Registers of the Victorian Registry of Births, Death and Marriages that have been cancelled for various reasons; re-registered in later years than the year of the marriage event; and late registration where the marriage record was not sent into the Registry until some years after the event.

Melbourne General Cemetery: Index and Transcriptions of Monumental Inscriptions - CD-ROM

This CD contains transcriptions (and an index) of the monumental inscriptions at the Melbourne General Cemetery to 1989.

This index contains the date of death and the age of the deceased if on the inscription. Each name points to the full transcription. The index contains about 119,600 names indexed from 42,500 memorials which is in a searchable database which also contains burial plot identification (where known) and a map of the cemetery.

National burial index for England and Wales - CD-ROM

Contains over 13 million burial records from cemetery burial registers throughout England & Wales. The records timescale ranges from 1538 to 2000. Information includes (where given in the original record): forename(s) and surnames; date of burial; age; details of place where the event was recorded; pre-1832 county; and the recording society, group or individual. No memorial inscriptions or death registrations are included. Many counties and parishes are represented, not all burials are included.

New South Wales Between the Wars Index: Pioneers series 1919-1945 - CD-ROM

Contains all marriages and deaths only,  registered in the state of New South Wales from 1919 to 1945, approximately 1.4 million records. The information includes the full name of the person getting married, their spouse, the place and the year of registration and a reference number. With a death the name of the deceased is recorded and the given names of the mother and father when known. The place, the year of registration and a reference number is also recorded.

New South Wales Pioneers Index: Federation series 1889-1918 - CD-ROM

Index to all events of births, deaths and marriages registered by the government in NSW. Births include the name of the child and the parent's given names. The deaths record the name of the deceased's and his or her parents, whilst the marriages contain the name of each part \y to the marriage. All events include the place, year and registration number.

Volumes I and II of the picturesque atlas, the definitive work of Australasian history written prior to 1900. First published in 1886, this work describes the first century of European settlement in Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific.

Queensland Federation Index: 1890-1914 - CD-ROM

 Contains nearly 730,000 entries of births, deaths and marriages registered in Queensland, between 1890 and 1914.  Search for births, deaths and marriages registered in Queensland between the years of 1890 and 1914. This information can then be used to help you apply for copies of registrations. The index can also assist in the compilation of family histories, to accurately identify births, deaths and marriages for legal purposes, investigate local history and compile statistics.

Sands and McDougall's Melbourne and Suburban Directory for 1865 - CD-ROM

Directory for 1865 containing street, alphabetical, and trade directory Melbourne and suburbs, together with a miscellaneous directory of useful information, arranged by street, and alphabetically,  trade and professional directory, and miscellaneous directory and advertisements - all useful insight, often including names of people and places.

The miscellaneous section includes banks, railways, land & sea transport, societies and institutions, government and official, ecclesiastical, legal, colonial, postal information and much more.

The whole directory, including most text in the ads, is searchable. This makes it useful not only for finding names, but also places occupations and other information for family and local historians.

Sands and McDougall's Melbourne and Suburban Directory for 1884 - CD-ROM

Contains street, alphabetical, and trade directory Melbourne and suburbs, together with government. official, legal, municipal and miscellaneous information.

A fascinating feature is a Universal Building Societies Supplement which includes of architectural house plans of the day - layouts and elevations - with the house price for each.

The directory includes many pages of advertisements - all useful information, often including names of people and places.

Sands and McDougall's Melbourne, Suburban and Country Directory for 1904 - CD-ROM

Consisting of over 1900 pages, this Sands and McDougall Directory, which in 1904 was in its 48th year of publication, consists of not only a Melbourne Directory, but also it's suburbs and the country areas too. 

The Melbourne and Suburbs sections contain the "Street, Alphabetical, Trade and Professional Directories of Melbourne and Suburbs together with Government, Ecclesiastical, Legal, Official, Municipal, and other miscellaneous Information".

The Country section "has been largely added to and now contains the Street, Trade and Professional Directories together with the Names of all the Leading Professional Men, Persons in Trade, and Storekeepers in 185 of the Principal Towns in the State of Victoria which are shown on a map specially prepared for this issue".

There is a detailed map covering the whole state of Victoria, as well as numerous detailed suburban maps. 

The whole directory, including most text in the ads, is searchable. This makes it useful not only for finding names, but also places occupations and other information for family and local historians.

South Australian Birth Registrations Index 1842-1906 - CD-ROM

Contains over 473,000 records of births registered in South Australia under a compulsory registration system introduced in 1842. It has been compiled entirely from information extracted from the birth registrations held by the South Australian Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Office. It includes all registrations up to the end of the year 1906. Includes the surname of the child, the given names, the date of birth, the sex of the child, the name of the father and the given and surname (usually the maiden name) of the mother, the birth place or residence and references.

Contains over 255,200 records of births registered in South Australia under a compulsory registration system introduced in 1842. Tasmanian convicts - CD-ROM

Comprehensive index of all convicts over the full transportation period of 1803 - 1854 to Tasmania compiled from the original records held by the Archives Office. It also contains references to locally convicted individuals who may have arrived free, were born in Tasmania or were former convicts whose original sentence had expired. The latest entry is 1893.

Tasmanian Pioneers Index: 1803-1899 - CD-ROM

Containing over 425,000 records of baptisms, births, deaths, deaths, burials and marriages. The church records contained in this index were transcribed in the 1930s by the Registrar-general's department. Compulsory registration was introduced in December 1938.

Tithe applotment books 1823-1838 - CD-ROM

Compiled in the 1820s a list all those paying tithes to the established church. It gives the name of the person, the townland, parish, county, size of holding, land quality and types of crops. It lists 200,000 names from 223 parishes. Land survey of landholders of counties Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone. A virtual census of pre-famine Ireland.

Victorian Death Index, 1921-1985 - CD-ROM

Includes a given name thesaurus. Generally includes surname, given name, registration number and registration year.
