Fascinating facts - did you know?During the Inauguration of the US President, the Constitution requires the president to take the oath of office, but other customs and rituals surrounding the inauguration have evolved by practice rather than by statute. George Washington established several of the rituals surrounding presidential inauguration. In 1789 he took the first oath of office with one hand on a Bible and at the end of the oath, he added, "So help me God!" Subsequent presidents have all done the same. Source:Bimes, Terri.
